Wichita Falls City Officials Working on Becoming Bicycle Friendly City

Wichita Falls is in the process of applying to become designated a bicycle friendly city.
Wichita Falls is in the process of applying to become designated a bicycle friendly city.

Since Hotter'N Hell is an important part of the local economy, city officials want to expand and improve options for bicyclists.

To get the designation, the city has to show how they encourage biking.

They're working on shared lane projects and will have many events in may for bicycle awareness month including speeches about bike safety at local schools and having a bike to work day.

Organizers say it's important that drivers and bicyclists know how to work together to make sure everyone is safe on the roads.

“We opened up training opportunities to encourage cyclist to train the road users not just the bicyclist the proper etiquette and use of the road ways and also training drivers in that etiquette and proper use,” says Traffic Superintendent Mark Beauchamp.

City officials hope to have the designation by this time next year.
