Wichita Falls Downtown Development Wants Improvements to Farmers Market

Farmers who set up shop at the downtown Wichita Falls farmers market had a record year this growing season.

Farmers who set up shop at the downtown Wichita Falls farmers market had a record year this growing season, and officials with downtown Wichita Falls development want to make sure that trend continues.

They want to revitalize and update the market. Some of the ideas they're tossing around include building a canopy to cover the market so it can continue in inclement weather and attaching garage doors to each side of the market, so a year-round market could be possible.

They estimate farmers market improvements would cost about 50-thousand dollars. Cynthia Laney, Executive Director of Wichita Falls Downtown Development said, "Hopefully we'll be able to go to the 4B board and see if we can either get matching funds or get a grant."

Laney says they'll continue working with an architect to come up with ideas for the market. She also says between 15 and 18-thousand people visited the market over the summer.
