Despite an outdoor watering ban and Stage 5 water restrictions quickly approaching, the City of Wichita Falls is moving forward with its 2014 Spring Compost Giveaway.

The city landfill has about 70,000 cubic yards of compost ready for the upcoming giveaway. Supervisors say the continued drought has caused demand for compost to dwindle but say the giveaway will go on as planned.

"We're still making product everyday. We are are making some sales. There's people that still want it. We've had calls about the giveaway asking if we were gonna have it Saturday and I told them yes. So everything is running normal," says Larry Wilkinson, supervisor at the Wichita Falls Landfill.

The Spring Compost Giveaway is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wichita Falls Landfill on Wiley Road.

To get the free compost you must follow these guidelines:

-Provide a City of Wichita Falls water bill showing the $3 recycling program charge
-Provide a cover for your compost load, which is limited to one pickup or 4x8 trailer load per person

Directions to the Wichita Falls Landfill are:
-Take Seymour Highway Southwest toward Seymour to Highway 258, located at Kamay "Y."
-Proceed West on Highway 258 toward Kamay (approximately one mile)
-Turn right (North) on Wiley Road
-Approximately two miles down you will see the entrance to the landfill on the left.
