Wichita Falls standoff ends with man in jail, boy found in closet

A Wichita Falls man barricades himself in a home with a child.

A standoff on Wednesday evening in Wichita Falls ends with a little boy being found and a man possibly trying to commit suicide before he is apprehended.

The incident took place at a home off Avenue C and Britain Street around 5 p.m.

Wichita County Sheriff David Duke says deputies tried serving two sealed indictments for sexual assault to a 29 year old Hispanic man living at the home.

Sheriff Duke says when deputies knocked on the door, the man refused to come out.

Neighbors notified law enforcement that there might be a child inside.

Duke says when swat team members entered the home, they found a little boy hiding in a closet.

The boy was not injured.

Duke says the man they'd been searching for was barricaded in the attic and was threatening to committ suicide so the swat team used gas to try and get him out.

The sheriff says the man came out through a vent on the side of the house and tried to reach for power lines; that is when deputies shot him twice with a bean bag shot gun, and he fell back with his legs crashing through the ceiling.

He was then taken into custody..

"It is so much easier to surrender and unfortunately for the people that own the house, both duplexes, has gas in it now. It's going to take a few hours to air out," Sheriff Duke says. "If you're wanted, you're going to get caught. We don't go away."

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment and is now in the Wichita County Jail.

His name is not being released until his rights are read on Thursday.

Sheriff Duke says the man does not face additional charges for the standoff.
