Wilbarger General Hospital CEO Resigns; New Search Underway for Replacement

Interviews are now underway to find a new chief executive officer of Wilbarger General Hospital.
Interviews are now underway to find a new chief executive officer of Wilbarger General Hospital.

After eight years on the job, Jonathon Voelkel turned in his letter of resignation Monday, which was effective immediately.

Voelkel had been CEO since 2006 and hospital officials say his three year contract was up for renewal in August.

In the past year, Wilbarger General has endured losses. However, hospital officials are not saying whether that is why Voelkel resigned.

Interim Chief Nursing Officer, Pamela Akin, is handling hospital operations while board members search for a new CEO.

Hospital officials say so far, two phone interviews have been conducted and one in-person interview is scheduled.

The hospital board hopes to have the position filled sometime next month.
