Woman Gets Deferred Adjudication for Leaving Toddler in Parking Lot

Two people Wichita Falls police officers say left their two-year-old son in Best Buy's parking lot appeared in court today: the mother to be sentenced and the father for a conference hearing.

Rachel Gyasi was found guilty of abandoning or endangering a child.

She's sentenced to four years deferred adjudication.

Arrest records state Rachel's husband Stephen told police he and his wife got in a confrontation in June that ended in the Best Buy parking lot.

Stephen said he tried to talk to Rachel, but she drove off in her van leaving the child.

He said he never saw his baby outside the van.

Officers say several people heard the toddler crying around 2:30 in the morning and called police.

Stephen Gyasi's is due back in court for another pre-trial conference on Feb.14.
