YMCA Fills up with Folks Escaping Snow

Many people said after being stuck inside all day Sunday they were determined to find a way to be active, and that had hundreds of people headed for the YMCA.

Many people said after being stuck inside all day Sunday they were determined to find a way to be active, and that had hundreds of people headed for the YMCA.

You can stomp it, even try kicking it, but still the snow hangs on.

And the YMCA was the place where many flocked to, tired of letting the snow keep them stuck sitting at home.

YMCA officials say within the first two hours of opening, which was delayed because of the weather, they saw 100 people.

I thought there would only be five or ten people but this place is really packed.”

Jessica Bennett, a teacher at Vernon College, was among those who chose to spend part of their day burning some calories.

And though many remained stationary with their workouts at least they weren't at home in a sedentary position.

I don't like being cooped up in the house so I like to go around and do stuff.

Taylor Bivona stayed busy with friends working on a new personal best weight lift, instead of spending the extra time on school assignments.

I have this term theme due tomorrow and I haven't started on it yet and so I was excited to procrastinate on it for one more day,” he said.

And though his teacher may not be pleased, he says at least his coaches will be happy he chose to get out and work out on a day that could have been spent at home without breaking a sweat.

Instructors at the YMCA say they were very busy the entire day and held all their classes.

As for Tuesday's opening, they say they are still not sure whether or not they will open at the regular time.
