As Department of Public Safety troopers continue to investigate the cause of a deadly accident on Friday afternoon between Seymour and Holliday, we now know the identities of the three people killed.
The accident happened around 3 p.m., about 14 miles east of Seymour on U.S. 82-271 eastbound.
According to DPS trooper Toby Catlin says a 2010 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by 79-year-old Ann Marie Thomas, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Highway 82.
He says a 2004 black Ford Mustang, driven by 19-year-old Bethany Loper of Holliday, was traveling eastbound on the highway and was trying to pass another vehicle but didn't see the Equinox traveling the wrong way.
Catlin says the two vehicles hit head on, and the Equinox then burst into flames.
"We have some witnesses who say they saw her going the wrong way trying to get her to slow down, turn around. Couldn't get her to stop. We don't have a reason right now why they were traveling the wrong way," Catlin says.
Thomas, Loper and her passenger, 18-year-old Brittney Woollis were all pronounced dead on the scene.
