Petrolia Supports Volunteer Fire Department with Festival

Many cities in Texoma have volunteer fire departments and we all know keeping them a float can be hard as they run strictly on donations.
Many cities in Texoma have volunteer fire departments and we all know keeping them a float can be hard as they run strictly on donations.

Dozens of bikers revved their engines to help the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department, Senior Citizens Center and School District.

But the 100 mile Fun Run was just the beginning of the festival, games, music and food brought people from across Texoma together for the cause.

“It's a just a community effort, it's not just bikers, it's anybody who wants to come out and have a good time and enjoy, you know it's just people helping people, that's what it's all about,” says Christian Covenant Riders.

Last year the festival raised more than $5,000, money the firefighters use to buy equipment and fuel.

“We love it, it's great to see the community behind us and helping us because that's our lively hood,” says Assistant Fire Chief Tony Fox.

Jena Fleming helped to start the festival five years ago, she was honored Saturday for the hard work she's done to help the different organizations, even after getting diagnosed with lung cancer.

“Very appreciated and just proud to bring something to Petriola, that they can enjoy and the family can have a good time together,” says Fleming.

She says even though it's a lot of work and takes many volunteers she hopes the event will continue for many years because it's so important to the community.

“I just think it's really really important that we support our community and I want to make sure that continues and we help everybody out,” says Fleming.

A motorcycle rally and car show will benefit all the Clay County Volunteer Fire Departments next weekend from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

It will be at the courthouse square in Henrietta.
