Prevent West Nile

Some times you see them and sometimes you don't. But mosquitoes are out there and some carry the deadly West Nile Virus.

Some times you see them and sometimes you don't. But mosquitoes are out there and some carry the deadly West Nile Virus.

According to the Center for Disease Control & Prevention, 287 people died from the virus last year.

Many states are already reporting West Nile activity and that number will rise if you don't protect your family right now!

Start by looking for products that contain DEET. Most over the counter bug sprays contain DEET in different concentrations so read the labels.

This homemade mosquito trap is the latest viral craze! I've had several patients say it works.

You will need:

-1 cup of water

-1/4 cup of brown sugar

1 gram of yeast

2 liter plastic bottle

Cut the plastic bottle in half.

-Mix brown sugar with hot water. Let cool. Pour in the bottom half of the bottle.

- Add the yeast. No need to mix. It creates carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes.

-Place the funnel part, upside down, and tape them together.

-Wrap the bottle with something black, leaving the top uncovered.

-Place the trap outside in an area away from your family.  Change the solution every 2 weeks for continuous control.
