Several teachers in the Wichita Falls ISD were in for a big surprise shortly after arriving to work.

Friday morning WFISD Foundation board members awarded over 20 teachers with I.D.E.A. grants. The Innovative Developmental and Educational Activities grants are meant to promote education by supporting and enhancing programs that are not funded by the school district.

One teacher we spoke with says a big reason these grants are so helpful is because they alleviate a lot of the stress of purchasing supplies they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford.

"This award is amazing the idea grant program that WFISD does every year is awesome. we as teachers we spend a lot of money in the classrooms. and there are just some things that are out of our price range," said Starsha Canaday.

Twenty five teachers representing sixteen winning grants were awarded Friday morning. The total amount of money awarded was almost $12,000.
