One local organization hoped to roll in some extra funds for Wichita Falls Police officers this evening, with an event that had people skating for a safer community.

The Citizens Police Academy Association held a skate night fundraiser at the Roller Plex this evening, and the money raised will help buy new gear for the Wichita Falls Police Department.

Past fundraisers by the Citizens Academy have helped officers obtain drug dogs and kevlar vests-- tools which are necessary to help keep our officers safe and in turn the community as a whole.

Citizens Academy President Doug Hardin says, "We've seen what the department does for the community and gotten a taste of what they do.  So it's very important to us to do everything we can do to support them because they're out there everyday sacrificing and putting their lives on the line for us."

Anyone interested in helping out our local law enforcement can also make donations.  The money will then be spent on new equipment and will also fund many of the educational programs put on by the Police Department throughout the year.
