The Hirschi girls basketball team knew they had something special this season. The fans were back in the stands and the district wins came fast and furious. And for the first time since 2006, they brought a district championship back to Hirschi.
Camille lee knows how long it's been since her girls team brought home a district title. In fact, she's known for a while, "Ever since i got here we've been hearing about the 2006 team and getting compared to them so winning the district championship this year felt really good as a senior..."
Lee has been a huge part of Lady Huskies success during district. Along with freshman freshman Nia Lewis, both of them threats on the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. Lewis says the lady huskies tough non district schedule helped prepare them to make a late run, "From the teams coach had us playing throughout preseason before district it had us confident going into district..."
And according to head coach Lita Lofton, "Nia Lewis is a special kid...She came to us very raw...But she just stepped into the big shoes she needed to fill and she's doing an excellent job for us...Camille lee she's another special senior..she's been with me for four years...She's been a captain for this team shes led this team and she's been a great role model...And i'm looking forward to getting much more from her and seeing her play and doing the things she knows how to do..."
In their first district championship since 2006, the huskies only dropped one district game, coach Lofton says,"It means a great deal to us and to the program it's been a long time since we had a district championship...The girls have worked very hard for this...They had their goals set high and i don't think we're done yet..."
And you can tell the girls are doing their homework on their next opponent, literally. Before practice each girl had to lay out a gameplan, and give reccomendations for how the lady huskies could get a win.
