The Texas Energy Star sales tax holiday starts Saturday and runs through Memorial Day.

Texans are expected to save about $2.9 million over the weekend according to the state comptrollers office.

The tax exemption is for air conditioners priced at $6,000 or less, refrigerators up to $2,000 dollars. Anything over that, customers only pay taxes on the difference.

The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs encourages all Texans to take advantage of the savings and the benefits of keeping homes affordable.
