The Vernon Business Development Corporation is starting a new strategy to focus its efforts to help existing and new businesses, instead of trying to attract new manufacturers.
In the past, Vernon city officials say the Business Development Corporation has focused on manufacturing jobs.
One of those efforts ended in failure after Tangarie energy shut down in 2012 after receiving more than a million dollars in incentives and loans.
But now, the BDC is shifting its approach to business infrastructure development which members say has included most of the successful business dealings in the past.
And they're calling the new concept the Ultimate Shop Local Program.
"We're assisting people who own property that may be vacant and trying to help them develop it through the Business Development Corporation with some pretty strong underwriting guarantees," says Vernon Mayor Jeff Bearden.
Mayor Bearden says members of the BDC will give a formal presentation of the program during Tuesday night's Vernon City Commission meeting.
