As we all know, being out in the heat can really take its toll on you. It is common for us to take plenty of breaks in the shade, cool off with a cold rag, drink plenty of water, or call off your outdoor activities all together and move inside. The indoors is the best safe haven for heat. So what about all the critters that bake in the heat day in and day out? Are they trying to move in too? The answer may alarm you. Employees at the Agriculture Extension have seen an increased number of phone calls related to pest control. A few bugs making the list are Tarantulas, Scorpions, and Earwigs! Besides escaping the heat, moisture and prey also lure these creepy crawlers into the house. To avoid an encounter with the critters, be sure to keep the house tidy. Scorpions and Tarantulas are nocturnal and typically hide under debris. Be sure to knock your boots together so you can evict any bugs trying to take residence in your shoe. The good news is none of these bugs are poisonous enough to cause life threatening injures. The bad news, they won't leave voluntarily until the heat lets off.
