A third grade teacher at Fowler Elementary School got a very special surprise on Thursday afternoon.
The Wichita Falls Independent School District Foundation presented Lori Apple with the 2013 Dorothy Huffman Award; an award given out to an outstanding third grade teacher each year.
Apple says she's shocked and humbled by the recognition.
Apple also received a $1,000 scholarship that she says will go toward her student's education.
"I definitely want to buy a Mimio Board, that you put on your board, to use like a smart board to add more technology to my classroom. That check should just about will cover it so I'm very happy about that," Apple says.
Apple says she dedicates the award to her fellow third grade teachers at Fowler who help each other throughout the year.
The award was established in 2008 in honor of Dorothy Huffman who was a WFISD third grade teacher from 1952 through 1990.
