Wichita County Commissioners Vote to Keep Burn Ban

Even though Wichita County has had some rain in recent weeks, commissioners have decided to remain one of the few counties in the area to keep enforcing a burn ban.

At their meeting Monday morning, Wichita County Commissioners decided not to lift the ban that's been in effect since May.

Commissioner Barry Mahler says even though fire dangers have subsided after the rains, the low lake levels are still a major concern.

He says reducing the number of wild fires will help save precious water.

And he says provisions are in place to help businesses with their work.

“We've written provisions to be be as business friendly as we possibly can, like someone who does outside welding, there are certainly provisions that will allow you to continue with that practice, we just ask you to take some additional precautions,” says Mahler.

Commissioners say they will continue to monitor the conditions and lake levels in future weeks.
