One woman is behind bars after authorities say she shot her neighbor's service dog.

Deputies were called a home in the 8800 block of River View Lane around noon Saturday for reports of an intoxicated person shooting a dog.

They say a man at the home had a rifle with a scope on it and they saw beer cans in the yard so they called in SWAT.

Authorities say they recovered the gun and took a woman at the residence into custody.

They say she's expected to be charged with deadly conduct and cruelty to an animal.

Sheriff David Duke says the woman saw a German Shepherd circling her dog.

He says the woman was in fear for her dog's safety.

Sheriff Duke says you do have the right to protect your dog on your property but the Shepherd was shot in the leg while in the road.

“This was in the road way, there were no signs of the dog being attacked or attacking the other dog so it's one of those situations that we will go and refer to the district attorney's office and let the chips fall where they may fall,” says Wichita County Sheriff David Duke.

Sheriff Duke says he expects the German Shepherd will be okay.
