Derek Lowe joined the KFDX news family in May 2018 as a morning anchor and reporter.
Born and raised in South Florida, Derek is no stranger to the clear blue skies here in Texoma. He grew up in Port Saint Lucie, Florida and then went on to attend the University of Central Florida (Go Knights!) where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
Derek is an avid lover of politics and news and spent the last semester of his college career interning for CBS News in Washington D.C. in the CBS This Morning division. During his time in our nation’s capital, Derek helped cover Congress and the Trump administration. He also had the privilege of visiting the White House press briefing room inside the west wing!
Prior to his time in D.C., Derek interned at WKMG News 6 in Orlando. Two weeks into his internship, the Pulse nightclub massacre occurred and Derek was sent to the scene with an investigative reporter that morning. After his internship ended, Derek went on to work on the assignment desk at WKMG for one year.
“I’m excited to be back in local news and in a community where we as journalists have the chance to make a difference. Being able to bring you the stories that matter most in your community is what makes me so eager to wake up at 2 a.m. for work each day. This community isn’t just one I cover on the news. It’s my home as well as yours and that makes each and every story all the more important.”
Outside of work, he considers himself a fitness fanatic but every once in awhile loves to splurge on some good food from local restaurants so if you have any suggestions around Texoma, be sure to let him know! Derek is beyond excited to be in Wichita Falls and is looking forward to bringing you the morning news bright and early. You can watch Derek Lowe weekdays from 5-7:00 a.m. on KFDX and from 7-8:00 a.m. on Texoma’s Fox.
