Today on Talking Texoma, host Dee King sits down with the marketing team of Texoma Community Credit Union, Morgan Lord and Lauren McKechnie to talk about what is Lemonade Day.
Lauren says, “Lemonade Day is this really exciting program for any youth in our community that want to be involved. It’s 100 percent free to the kids and it’s an education-based program that really teaches them entrepreneurship and financial skills, financial literacy that really carry them through to the future and it’s all based around running and operating their own lemonade stand”.
Lauren continues to tell us Lemonade Day is in it’s 5th year here in Wichita Falls and she encourages any who is interested to go online at https://lemonadeday.org/wichita-falls or search for the Lemonade Day Wichita Falls on Facebook. She lets us know after you register, you will be able to receive your guide book for both the student and the mentor. Lauren also says after you register you will be able to attend their information sessions on March 7 and 14, 2019.
Lauren tells us any age can participate from Kindergarten to the 12th grade. She explains the lessons are geared towards grades 3rd through 6th, but they encourage all age groups to participate.
Morgan lets us know the Lemonade Day program is to teach the children to spend, save and share. Spend is how much they want to spend on themselves, share is what they want to share with the community and then save what they want to save for later in the future.
Morgan also explains after the children have gone through the guide book and develop their business plan, they can go into Texoma Community Credit Union to take out a loan that they must pay back with interest of just a dollar. This helps to teach them about loans, interest rates and how to pay them back.
Be looking for pop-up lemonade stands throughout Wichita Falls on Saturday, April 27, 2019 and support our young entrepreneurs during Lemonade Day.
