A Duncan Man Dies After Falling Into Frozen Pond

A Duncan man and his dog drowned while duck hunting in Stephens County Saturday.
 
Sheriff Wayne McKinney said 22-year-old Tanner James Shorter of Duncan, was duck hunting when his dog got stuck on a frozen pond retrieving a duck.
 
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Shorter and his dog broke through the ice and fell into the water. 
 
Officers said Shorter was recovered from 12 feet of water.
 
An overwhelming amount of thoughts, prayers and fundraising efforts for funeral costs were all over social media throughout the weekend. 
 
Members of Shorter’s high school graduating class started a fund at First Bank to help the family.
 
A hair salon also offered its proceeds to the family. 
 
Shorter was quarterback for Empire and was an active member of FFA.
 
A GoFundMe page has been set up for Shorter’s family.
 
According to the GoFundMe page, Shorter was married and expecting a child with his wife.
