The Wichita Falls Police Department is investigating a situation where a body was found along a jogging trail next to the Wichita River.
Just before noon on Saturday, several officers, the crime scene unit and the dive team were all on scene investigating.
Police said joggers and individuals using the trail saw the body along the bank of the river and called 911 late this morning.
When police arrived on scene, they found the body of a white male.
While officers were investigating the scene, the dive team came out to recover any potential evidence and the body.
“We were riding by on the mountain bike trail, which is on the north side of the river, and saw what we thought was a body,” witness Scott Hutchins said. “I wasn’t sure if it was a mannequin or a dead body at this point. But I called 911, and while I was on the phone with the operator, there was a couple running on the circle trail and I asked them to stop and just verify that it was. Of course they did. And it was a body.”
“There’s no signs of foul play,” Sgt. Harold McClure said. “There’s nothing that would indicate to us on scene now that the public is in any type of harm or any type of danger of harm.”
The body will be sent to Tarrant County for an autopsy, which will hopefully reveal the cause of death.
WFPD said they will not be able to release his identity until family is notified.
