Burkburnett Hit Hard By Storms

Burkburnett was hit hard today.

Several roads were closed in Burk, some for just a little while and others for the entire day.

It’s a site residents say they haven’t seen in quite a long time.

The sounds of rushing water crashing aren’t something Burkburnett residents hear every day, especially since the drought took over in 2011.

Beverly Riley and her husband spent their Wednesday morning marveling at all the water that’s landed in the city over the past day.

“We just wanted to get out and see how deep the water was around Burkburnett and the creeks, how full they are, and they’re just amazingly running over everywhere. Roads are blocked all around town in different places. And the Red River is running high also,” Riley said.

But all that water is now flooding some area streets, causing them to be shut off to traffic.

There’s been so much rain that Gilbert Creek is spilling into the roadway.

On Bohner Road in Burkburnett, the road is washed out.

Officials warn, never drive on a flooded roadway because you might think you know how deep the water is, because it’s normally much deeper than you think.
