LUBBOCK, TX – Couple bicycling across the United States to raise money for their granddaughter’s kidney transplant.

Jerry and Susan Welch are traveling from San Antonio, Texas to Oregan. Their mission, to raise money for their granddaughter Mikayla’s kidney transplant. Susan Welch said Mikayla was born with many deformities and has spent most of her 6 years of life in the hospital. In January, Welch said Mikayla was diagnosed with renal failure.

“She is filled with the joy of life and captures everyone’s heart she meets,” Welch said, in a statement. “She has the heart and spirit of a champion, and we believe in miracles.”

60-year-old Jerry Welch will cycle 24,000 miles from San Antonio, Texas to Canby, Oregon in attempt to provide what their granddaughter desperately needs and to cover medical expenses out-of-pocket.

“We are asking for your help, support and prayers,” Welch said.”

The Welchs have traveled through Lubbock and endured West Texas severe weather to complete their mission.
