LAS COLINAS, Tx.
Joining the hundreds of athletes heading to Rio for the summer Olympic games will be thousands of family members to show support.
One hopeful Olympian will bring her newest family member– who’s not quite family yet — along with her to Brazil.
This summer will be busy for an athlete aiming at Rio, but for Stacy Lewis, one of the best golfers in the world, it’s more like hectic because she’s got all the golf she can handle on the LPGA tour.
She also has corporate events, and soon to be one of the most important days of her life, her wedding day.
A professional golfer’s office can be lonely, but sometimes the job you love can lead to the love of your life.
“He passed the test pretty quick with my parents,” said Lewis.
She was introduced to Garrod Chadwell by her college coach at the University of Arkansas.
“He had to come pick me up at my parents house, which he said he hadn’t done in 15 years.”
The first date led to more and now the pair will be walking down the aisle on August 6, a day after the Olympics kick off.
“I don’t get to see [Stacy] in a dress too often, much less a white one with her hair done. No chance I keep it together with anything involved with the wedding,” Chadwell said.
“He’s a wuss, he cries all the time, I just told him to make sure he doesn’t pass out when he walks down the aisle,” Lewis joked.
The wedding bells are just days before the women’s golf event tees off in Brazil.
“It will be really special to have him there and extend our honeymoon a little bit longer,” Lewis said.
Even though the newlyweds have a busy schedule ahead, they say love will overcome an hectic life.
Women’s golf won’t make their rosters official until mid-July, however, Stacy Lewis is in the driver’s seat for a spot on the U.S. team.
She is currently the fourth ranked player in the world and the second ranked American.
The top two for each country will earn a spot in the Summer Games.
