“Sam’s Law” is also now law in Texas and Governor Abbott signed the bill Tuesday.
The bill is in honor of Samantha Watkins, a student who died after a seizure.
It requires Texas districts to add seizure education and training for public school employees.
“It’s not about me, it’s not about Sam, it’s about all of the kids that are going to be helped, from now until as long as Texas public schools are open so it’s a fantastic thing – fantastic,” Samantha’s mother Barbara Watkins said.
The Epilepsy Foundation has two Texas affiliates that provide training for free to public schools.
