71st Summer Youth Musical: Guys and Dolls!

Interviews

It’s time for the 71st Summer Youth Musical! This tradition, begun in 1948, allows young people of Jr. and Sr. High school age to hone their singing, dancing, and acting skills and participate in a fun group activity during the summer.

This year’s show is Guys and Dolls, a musical romantic comedy set in late 1940’s Manhattan. The show is directed by Luke Draper, who has performed in numerous shows at both Wichita and Backdoor Theatres, and features a talented cast of young performers, many of whom have appeared in shows at Wichita Theatre, Backdoor Theatre, or at FUMC in previous Youth Musicals.

Guys and Dolls revolve around the relationships of gambler Sky Masterson (Robert Halloway) and missionary Sarah Brown (Angelica Concepcion) and Sky’s con-man friend Nathan Detroit (Dominic Isaiah Chavez) and showgirl Miss Adelaide (Alyssa Minuto). Featuring well-known songs such as “Luck Be a Lady,” “Sit Down, You’re Rockin’ the Boat,” and the hilarious “Adelaide’s Lament,” along with over-the-top characters, this musical is good family fun.
