7th annual Chili Cook-Off raises money for 15-month-old

The Downtown Wichita Falls Farmers Market was filled with people for the seventh annual Yellow Rose Sertoma Chili Cook-Off Saturday.

Yellow Rose Sertoma is an organization dedicated to hearing health, with events like the chili cook-off, as well as visits to schools, educating students about protecting their hearing.

The profits from this event will go to the family of 15-month-old Corbyn Smith. Smith received cochlear implants Wednesday. This much outpouring of support is something Smith’s family says they’ll always be grateful for.

“Making Corbyn the face of the chili cookoff is just, we just couldn’t even put into words how we feel about it,” Smith’s grandmother Vicky Adkins said. “The outreach and the help and the donations that they have managed to put in for her, we never imagined in a million years that they could make this happen for her.”

Some of those people making things happen were the numerous volunteers, cooks and judges including our very own Darrell Franklin.

Adkins said she asks for prayers and positive thoughts for Corbyn, as her implants are being turned on March 21.
