On Capitol Hill, the annual defense bill championed by Congressman Mac Thornberry is one step closer to making it to the house floor.
Congressman Thornberry says if signed by the president the defense bill will bring positive effects to Sheppard Air Force Base.
Passing includes a 2.6 percent pay raise for all military members and increasing the side of the Air Force.
“It puts significantly more money into operations and maintenance accounts and those are the accounts that pay for training,” Thornberry said. “They pay for repairs and maintenance for the planes and also for the training of all the folks that come through at Sheppard.”
Thornberry says the bill also addresses the ongoing pilot shortage.
The bill is due to make it to the house floor later this month.
