Arrest made in police shootout on 35th Street

Local News

A Wichita Falls man is in the Wichita County jail after allegedly firing a gun at a police officer.

Just before 11 p.m. Thursday officers were called to the 1200 block of 35th Street for a check welfare call.

Police said a man had forced his way into a home, pointed a gun at a woman after she allegedly refused to give him meth.

When officers approached the home, they said they could hear a man telling them not to open the door and then multiple rounds were fired out of the door.

At that time, police set up a perimeter and attempted to make contact with the suspect later identified as Steven Oliver, 23.

It took about 20 minutes for officers to detain him.

Oliver is now jailed on a $75,000 bond and is facing two counts of aggravated assault against a public servant and burglary of a habitation
