A Wichita Falls man with a record of previous assaults has his bond set for an alleged attack which left a man in critical condition.

William Starnes, 46, has a $100,000 bond for assault of a family member and a $50,000 bond for possession of drugs.

Charges for the assault of the man are pending.

Police say just before noon Monday, officers were called to the 500 block of Burkburnett Road about an assault with a weapon.

Police say witnesses reported a man was assaulting a 59-year-old woman.

Officers found a man and a woman lying on the ground.

Authorities say the woman was reluctant to say much but that her husband, Starnes, had assaulted her and the man, and that Starnes also had tried to run her down with his truck.

A neighbor told police she heard a man cursing and yelling “get up!” and saw Starnes throw the woman to the ground and kick her, then he went over the to man and punched him in the face.

Police say they could see tire tracks in the grass.

Another neighbor says Starnes was screaming at his wife and kicking her, and then began hitting the man and then tried to run over the woman with his truck.

Police say the man had tried to come to the woman’s aid, and at some point was knocked unconscious with a board.

The man was last reported in critical condition in the hospital.

The outcome of his injuries may determine what charge Starnes faces.

Starnes has a lengthy record dating to 1989 which includes burglaries, harassing phone calls, drugs, assaults of public servants, theft, forgery, assault of a family member, leaving the scene of an accident and violation of a protective order for stalking.
