UPDATE: Officials have ruled the structure fire as accidental

Officials have released the name of the woman who died from a structure fire on March 15 as 58-year-old Eva Renne Harlan.

The fire started by improper disposal of smoking material that ignited the bedding where the occupant was laying.

Her body was sent to Southwest Forensic Institue for an autopsy.

The results of the autopsy are pending.

Original story: One woman is dead following an apartment fire early Saturday morning.

The Wichita Falls Fire Department responded to a structure fire 1:20 a.m. at 400 Burnett Street at Midtown Manor Apartments. Upon arrival, they noticed heavy smoke on the fifth floor of the six-story apartment building. 

When firefighters got into the apartment, they found a 57-year-old female lying in the hallway inside the front door.

They removed the woman from the apartment and found her to be deceased, once they took her outside. Firefighters then went inside the apartment and found a burned, pull-out sofa.

The apartment had fire damage in the living room and the rest of the apartment was damaged by smoke.

The cause of the structure fire is undetermined at this time and the identity of the woman hasn’t been identified.
