Burkburnett man charged after allegedly shooting a dog with a pellet rifle

Local News

A Burkburnett man is charged with animal cruelty after police say he admitted firing a pellet rifle into a dog’s face.

Steven Ray Brown, 43, was booked on cruelty to a non-livestock animal and is no longer in jail.

Burkburnett Police say a resident in the 100 block of Avenue C reported hearing a pellet gun discharge and saw a neighbor holding a pellet gun and opening a gate to let a wounded dog out.

An officer questioned Brown and says he told him he saw a dog in his backyard trying to mate with his dog, and he did not like it so he got a pellet gun and shot him in the face.

Officers asked him to get the gun and say Brown went to the rear of the house and reached up and pulled the gun off the roof.

An animal control officer located the dog and said it was bleeding from the face and cowering in fear.
