Many Texomans in a fight with cancer or who are survivors felt pampered Monday evening, thanks to folks over at Kiowa Casino and Hotel and Serenity Salon.
During Kiowa’s 2nd annual “Think Pink” event, they once again partnered with Serenity Salon to offer free manicures.
A pleasant surprise is how the women are describing Kiowa’s act of kindness.
2016 was the year of cancer for Barbara Galyean, as she puts it, and as a survivor, this event is one for the books.
“You feel like they care for you and they care for what you’ve gone through,” Galyean said.
The “they” she is referring to is Kiowa Casino and Hotel as well as Serenity Salon.
As part of the “Kiowa and the community” events, they are hosting “Think Pink”, an annual event that honors cancer survivors and fighters.
“This journey that cancer survivors have or people that are battling cancer is so hard emotionally we wanted to be just a little part of the joy” Kiowa’s director of marketing, Callie Singh said.
“We’re here doing manicures on women who have battled cancer and those who have won the battle against cancer.” Serenity Salon co-owner, Tammy Carlton said.
Women just like Barbara.
Barbara was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in December of 2015, she then underwent treatment and won the fight by December 2016.
She tells us that sometimes being on that journey, you don’t feel your best but efforts like these bring her joy.
“I am so… Impressed by what they are doing. It feels so good. You feel so special.” Galyean said. “They’ve just overdone it with the shirts and the food and the nail polish and you don’t have to have pink but I don’t know why anybody wouldn’t want to on this event.”
As we celebrate cancer fighters and survivors, Barbara wants to remind women everywhere of just how important it is to get checked and be aware of their bodies.
The women enjoyed a free manicure, snacks and refreshments, and a shirt.
Kiowa officials say this event has been so successful, there is no doubt it will continue.
