Many of Archer City’s residents had to go without power today after a man said he lost control of his pickup and trailer  while reaching for his cell phone, and ran into a utility pole.

The accident happened at Cherry and Center  just before noon, and almost 200 customers lost their power.

Officers say the driver dropped his cell phone and was reaching for it and went across the  opposite lane, hit the power pole, went into a yard and stopped just short of the porch of the house.

City hall and the courthouse closed because they had no phones or computers.  At last check just under 30 customers were without full power. The Sheriff’s Office says the driver was not under the influence and will  be charged with  displaying a false registration sticker.
