The 67th annual Parade of Homes begins Friday and the home built by the WFISD Career Education Center students will be among the beautiful homes to be toured by the community.
It is for sale for more than $40,000.
Two years after the foundation was laid, students at the CEC have successfully completed their first home.
“Our Architecture students took the lead and designed several different houses and this is the winning design,” Director of Career Technical Education Michelle Wood said. “They have worked all school year to do everything from the floor up.
While they had an instructor, students were hands-on with everything within the walls.
“They had to go through city inspections just like you would under a regular construction, when something was not done right they were corrected,” Wood said. “They were able to understand the process of pulling permits and understanding what it was to have somebody check your work, not just a teacher but somebody that is in the community.”
Now that the finished product is ready for sale, community members are welcomed to tour it and others during at the 67th annual Parade of Homes that kicks off on Friday.
“The home is also listed on Zillow,” Wood said.
“We’re very proud to have the students enter their home in the parade,” North Texas Home Builders Association President Doug Mcculloch said. “We see them as the future contractors and we want to support them.”
CEC officials said they hope selling this home will provide the funds to build more in the future.
Proceeds from the parade support the North Texas Home Builders Association and the Habitat for Humanity.
