Major changes are on their way to Wichita Falls movie theaters.
Cinemark has been under construction and movie-goers like Alexis and Mason Hord don’t seem to mind, and enjoy the changes.
“It’s a really nice theater,” Mason Hord said. “A lot of people come here and there is an arcade to play at and there a lot of movies to see.”
The Hords and others are looking forward to what they’ll watch those movies from, and soon.
“I’m really excited for the big chairs, cause like I’ve always gone to my Grandma’s house where it is like laid back and now I am going to be able to enjoy my movie more,” Alexis Hord said.
“They are really nice and that is what I imagine they’d be like, and so I am pretty excited about that,” Damion Fisher said
Officials say by the end of August all of the luxury loungers will be installed on one side, then they will move to the other side.
Meanwhile there’s a lot of upgrades happening at AMC Sikes Senter 10.
“When you get inside the theater and watch the movie, it is wonderful,” Vicki Malone said.
Half of the theaters at Sikes Senter already have the new recliners.
“Absolutely delightful and you don’t fall asleep,” Malone said. “It is just so comfortable.”
And that could be easy to do since the seats recline all the way and are heated too.
The new seating is only part of the plans in store during the full renovation.
Officials say the theaters now also offer the latest in sight and sound technology and they will soon be building a bar.
“Really just all new things, like the carpets and stuff weren’t as good. They were getting kind of like dirty and stuff, just from being used for so long,” Damion Fisher said. “I’m just hoping that it is newer, you know a little bit better.”
The goal is for crews to wrap all work at the mall in early fall.
Although the theater will lose some capacity, they say the experience will be that much better for their guests.
“Tell them to come on out here and see for themselves, because it really is nice,” Malone said.
Cinemark hopes to have all new seating installed in the fall.
Cinemark also recently applied for a liquor license, to serve movie goers beer, wine and frozen cocktails, but that has not been approved, yet.
