While the river levels are dropping, commissioners approved the declaration of disaster County Judge Woody Gossom enacted Friday.
There was no hesitation Monday morning as county leaders voted in favor of the declaration.
This comes following the severe thunderstorm last Wednesday leaving great damages across Wichita County and surrounding areas.
“The first step is to see if there is gonna be any state or federal funding available to help with the disaster,” Precinct 3 Commissioner Barry Mahler said.
And so for the next couple days, county crews will be out assessing the damages and documenting notes, pictures, and videos with the hope that the county will be granted the financial assistance needed to address repairs, repairs that could take up to two years.
“We’ll start with the ones that pose the most danger to our citizens,” Mahler said.
After those are addressed, Mahler says next would be the roadways.
