Many community members came together Sunday, helping raise money for a woman battling cancer.
Lisa Kidwell-Bradford was recently diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, which has spread to her liver and bones. To help with all the medical expenses, her family and friends put on this event and the support from the community has been great.
This time has been very rough financially on Kidwell-Bradford’s family between medical bills and normal living expenses.
“Medical bills. Everyday cost of living,” Diane Reese said. “She is unable to work unfortunately because of the type of work she was in. She works with the public so that’s not good for her. Her immune system is really down. It’s high risk for her.”
“And her husband is staying home with her to help take care of her as well, so he is away from his job as well. It’s just been a financial strain for them,” Kristy Shook said.
To help raise money, there was a poker run and an auction with items donated from many different places.
“We have had several local people in the community donate items like a sewing machine, Kenny’s donated some seasoning. There’s several gift cards. A couple of hairdressers have donated their services as well,” Shook said.
“Harley Davidson donated some bbq sets, Hook and Ladder and several personal donations as well,” Tam-e Sanders said.
Seeing the community help through the donations or participating in the event has meant so much to her friends and family
“It has been awesome. We have had so many that have just blessed us to help her. We are ever so grateful for that,” Reese said.
“We are thankful,” Shook said.
“We are new to this. We are all learning a lot and we are finding out how great our community is and how they come together for those that need it,” Sanders said.
“Definitely showing love and support,” Shook said.
Family and friends will be hosting another benefit for Lisa Kidwell-Bradford on May 5 at Iowa Park High School.
