Country music artist Granger Smith held a performance in town on Friday but before he hit the stage he gave one kid a surprise of a lifetime.
WFISD student Coy Emanuel spent time writing a letter for his teacher about someone he would like to meet, and Emanuel had one person in mind.
“She told us at the end of the STAAR test to write a letter, so I wrote a letter about my favorite singer Granger Smith,” Emanuel said. “I wrote a few songs that he wrote and I wrote about him and his personality.”
With Smith performing in Wichita Falls one year after Coy’s letter, the owner of Boulevard Nightclub helped make arrangements for Coy to meet his idol.
“Coy’s mom sent us a message on Facebook, and I told her that we would do the best that we could,” Boulevard owner Abbey Wuthrich said. “We would make sure that we would send it over to Granger Smith’s team and see if we could make anything happen for him. I knew it was important to her so we just tried to do what we could.”
Smith performed one of his songs for Coy and also signed Coy’s letter he wrote for his teacher. Smith said he was honored to hear Coy’s story.
“Getting to shake Coy’s hand and meet him like this,” Smith said. “Trust me, it does more to me than it does to you. Because it just really helps ground me and remind me of what’s important.”
Because of Smith’s act of generosity, he was able to make one kid’s dream come true.
After finishing up Friday, Smith will hit the road to perform in Salado, Texas on Saturday.
Smith will perform at Boulevard at 8 p.m. Click here to purchase tickets for the concert.
