DPS troopers attempt to notify next of kin of man killed in early morning crash

Local News

Department of Public Safety troopers are not yet releasing the identity of a man who crashed through a historic building in Montague Sunday morning, and was killed.

Sergeant Dan Buesing said around 9 a.m., the man was driving south on State Highway 175 when for some reason, he crashed into the old grocery store building southwest of the courthouse.

The vehicle became lodged inside, and fire consumed the building as well as the driver and truck.

Buesing says the man was driving a 1999 Chevy pickup with Oregon registration.

He says power was cut off because distribution lines were creating a safety hazard to surrounding firefighters.

It took them about two hours to put out the flames, before the pickup was removed.

Sergeant Buesing says the situation was brought under control around 1 p.m., and DPS will continue to investigate.
