Many people don’t know that one in six families are food insecure in Wichita Falls alone, so the folks with the Junior League of Wichita Falls is holding their annual Food Fight event.
More than 40 businesses have come together to help bring food to the tables of those less fortunate. The event kicked off on Feb. 23 and wraps up Saturday at Market Street starting at 9 a.m.
Each business will weigh the amount of food received and the business with the highest weight donated wins bragging rights for the year. CEO of the Wichita Falls Area Food Bank Kara Nickens said this event speaks volumes about our community.
“Our community always comes together to support us, we have such great support and just to go in and have a friendly competition to see you know who can help us fill the shelves so that we make sure that nobody goes to bed hungry tonight,” Nickens said.
Donations were picked up today and will be weighed tomorrow at Market Street at Fairway and Kell.
