A funeral service is set for a 14-year-old Munday boy who drowned in Millers Creek Reservoir over the weekend.

14-year-old Gabriel Rodriguez drowned in the lake between Seymour and Munday during a family outing on Saturday.

His service will be Thusrday, April 23rd.

Seymour Banner Editor, Matt Gwinn tells us Gabriel’s 9-year-old sister nearly drowned and was resuscitated by members of a Seymour family who were fishing nearby and heard the cries for help.

He says Ernie Storek, who has EMT training, and family members did CPR on the girl and then he and family members tried to locate the boy, but by the time he was found, it was too late.

The two children were playing in shallow water with their mother and her boyfriend, and authorities believe they stepped off a ledge and vanished in deep water.

Gabriel was taken to Knox County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The girl was taken to the Seymour Hospital, and then flown to a hospital in Lubbock. We do not yet have an update on her condition.

Gabriel was born in Seymour in 2000. He was a 7th grader at Munday Junior High.

His service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday morning at First Baptist Church in Munday.
