Funeral services are set for a former Jacksboro ISD superintendent killed in a double fatal accident yesterday evening in Jack County.
It happened just before 5:30 p.m. on Highway 380 about two miles east of Bryson.
Department Public Services officials said the driver of a pickup heading east crossed over into the westbound lane.
That’s when authorities believe the driver of an SUV tried to get out of the way by swerving into the right bar ditch.
DPS Sgt. Dan Buesing said the pickup and SUV crashed head-on in the ditch.
The driver of the SUV Dennis Bennett, 58, died at the scene.
Ricky Don Broom, 63, of Perrin, was in the pickup. He was flown by medical helicopter to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
Dennis Bennet retired as superintendent of Jacksboro ISD in 2016 after serving 13-years as the district’s leader and 27-years in education. He is survived by his wife, Linda, seven children and four grandchildren.
A visitation for the family is set for 4 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Jacksboro where Bennett was a long-time member.
A celebration of life service will take place Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. inside the Jacksboro high school gymnasium.
The crash remains under investigation.
