Give Light Awards Honors Area Volunteers

Local News

For the last 5 years, the Junior League of Wichita Falls has celebrated volunteers in the Wichita Falls community through the Give Light Awards and this year the event filled the Downtown Farmer’s Market.

After receiving 85 nominations, Give Light Committee members awarded 9 awards to 10 area volunteers and organizations for their dedication to local charities on April 27, 2017.

Jennie Lilley, chair of the 2017 Give Light Awards Committee, says the event benefits the community by giving community members a chance to recognize the hardworking individuals who help others without wanting appreciation or gratitude. As a member of the Junior League of Wichita Falls, she explained why she donates her time to good causes.

“I volunteer because I’m doing something good for people who don’t have the ability or the ways and the means,” said Lilley. “So the things that I do help benefit the less fortunate people. I also volunteer because it just feels good.”
