Governor Abbott stops in Texoma, talks economy of the state

Local News

Governor Greg Abbott made two stops in Texoma Wednesday, one in Wichita Falls followed by another in Burkburnett.

The first stop was at the MPEC for the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers Expo where Abbott talked about how the state has responded to the challenges of the oil and gas industry.

Abbott says the industry has grown and improved the last two years creating 200,000 new jobs and the low unemployment rate is a positive sign for the state.

“The Texas economy is actually larger than the economy of the entire country of Canada, the Texas economy is even larger than the economy of Australia, and — believe this or not — the Texas economy is even larger than the country of Russia,” Abbott said.

Abbott says one of the next steps is to invest more in the skilled work trade to meet the current demand, which could make Texas the economic engine of America.
