Since stores are opening earlier and earlier, shoppers are calling Thanksgiving by a different name. Black Friday is the more well-known shopping day but the busiest for the stores may just be Gray Thursday.
Gray Thursday and Black Friday are two of the biggest sale days of the year. In 2015, stores started opening up at 6 p.m. on Thursday changing the landscape of holiday shopping.
Mackenzie Gillispie has been participating for two years and said they always come with a game plan, but Russell Catletti has been coming with his grandma for eight years but said they stopped having a game plan.
“We would be like, no we are going here second and then we’d wait until like 2:00 A.M. We were like well good we missed all of the sales,” Catletti said.
Walmart manager Sean Biner said for them Thursday is bigger than Black Friday.
“Thursday is actually the greatest shopping day of the year for us. It starts at 6, and we have a lot of great sales and incredible prices for all of our customers,” Biner said.
Biner said online shopping has been beneficial.
“Most people come here and shop on Thursday and Friday are people that really enjoy the experience so for the online shopper that’s for the person that wasn’t going to come anyways but wants to gain that value so it’s really kind of a double bonus. We get both ends of it as a company,” Biner said.
Biner said although it is a busy day, it’s a day them and their employees look forward to every year. She also said to wait an hour or so after the store has opened. You will typically miss the crowd and still have a lot of the items available on your list.
