A group of homeschool students from Wichita Falls, Vernon and Graham made an appearance in court today, but they weren’t in any trouble.
The students were participating in a mock trial that they had been preparing for, for some time.
It was part of the Classical Conversations program for homeschool students. Attorneys from around the area were brought in to speak with the students and one attorney worked with them preparing for this case. For the students, trying a case wasn’t exactly like they expected.
“I didn’t think it went the way I thought it would,” student Graysen Abila said, “The work I had to do for it was very stressful, but thankfully I did it, and because I did it, I was able to do what I did today.”
The experience allowed the students feel the some of the intensity from court.
“It’s very nerve-racking,” student Garrett McGillis said.
The students took turns playing the different roles in the courtroom, from defense attorney, prosecution, bailiff and witnesses. Some even had to try the different sides of the same case.
