Information update on Justice for Wilder

Local News

It’s the message flooding social media in recent days as the death investigation involving the son of MMA fighter Bubba McDaniel reaches the three-month mark.

KFDX is getting a clear picture on when answers could come.

Wilder McDaniel, 2, was found dead at a Wichita Falls home on Oct. 11.

On Oct. 22, police conducted a follow-up evidence search at the home of James Staley.

While Wichita Falls police officers were executing the warrant, a man was seen coming out of the home with his hands in the air.

Authorities did not confirm the man was Staley, and no one has ever been arrested or charged in this case.

The day of the evidence search, our newsroom requested through the Freedom of Information Act an opportunity to obtain copies from the Wichita Falls police department of the initial police report and dispatch 911 calls in relation to Wilder’s death.

However, the city of Wichita Falls sent our request to the Attorney General to review.

The city’s letter to the Texas AG said the release of that information would interfere with law enforcement or prosecution and vailed child abuse confidentiality.

The Attorney General’s office denied our request.

KFDX has also reached out to the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s office several times to request Wilder’s autopsy results and were told results would likely be ready in 90 days.

However, the 90-day mark passed last Friday.

The Dallas County Medical Examiner told us Friday “cases like this usually involve additional consultants, which happened in this case.”

The report was received Thursday afternoon, so the report should be complete next week. Be sure to stick with Texoma’s Homepage, as we continue to follow this story.
